the list

It started as a conversation between Bubba and me (or is it Bubba and I?) while we were strolling in our neighborhood.  I think it went something like this:
Me:  Research shows that if you exercise more in your 40s and 50s, your chances of getting a chronic illness is lowered.
Bubba: (nods)
Me:  Well, I guess I'll start exercising in my 40s then.
Bubba: (shakes his head)
You're thinking one of my pre-40 goals is exercising?  You're so wrong! I can never set exercising as a goal.  Whenever I've tried, I failed. My list is mainly about what I love:  food and travel.  Here's a draft:
  • Visit 20 countries (I'm currently at 14). With only 6 years between now and the big 4-0, plus a kid in tow, I don't think I can do more than 20.
  • Visit 25 states (currently at 18).  Road trip, anyone?
  • Throw a dinner party and serve a 5 course meal.
  • Buy my dream home (or at least have my dream kitchen)
  • Fly my Bubba First Class for at least one of our trips abroad.
  • Go to the movies alone.  (Why is this on the list? Because it seems so foreign to me and for some reason, it scares me.)
  • See a movie at a drive-in theater.
  • Host a Halloween party
  • Donate my hair to charity (I better do this soon before the grays really set in).
  • Make ice cream
  • Make one of Charley's Halloween costumes
  • Finish a New York Times Crossword puzzle in under 7 minutes.
  • Be an extra on a tv show or in a movie
  • Write a short story
